The Shelbourne Hotel is committed to building a culture of environmental responsibility and has integrated sustainability concepts into our business goals and strategies along with continuously educating our employees in best practice. We are working collaboratively as a team to make improvements and reduce our carbon footprint collectively as a key objective and have partnered with Green Hospitality as part of this endeavor. 

Waste

• All of our waste is separated throughout the hotel, including guestroom bins
• We serve glass bottled water throughout the hotel, these bottles are reusable and fully recyclable 
• Smart care system for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel dispenser cartridges, thus reducing single-use plastic around the hotel 
• Electronic invoices sent to guests and suppliers
• QR codes in place to replace paper menus to reduce waste
• The Shelbourne Hotel is a member of Repak Ireland 

Green Purchasing 

• Food is sourced from local suppliers to reduce food miles 

Community Social Responsibility 

• We promote sustainable transport and the use of public transport where appropriate along with recommending walking options to local historical attractions, given our city centre location
• Bike to Work scheme is available to all associates internally

Energy

• We purchase 100% Green Electricity 
• All major plants and machinery have been replaced with new highly efficient, top of the range technological equipment
• All of the lightbulbs in the hotel have been upgraded to LED lighting 
• BMS (Building management system) installed to ensure efficiency of the equipment with precise schedule and temperature 
• Our Accommodation team operate a towel and linen re-use programme in all guestrooms 
• Key card activated power in all guest rooms 

Water

• Water consumption is monitored monthly by our in-house maintenance team 
• The urinals in the gents public toilets are controlled by a sensor to reduce the water consumption and we spot-check this regularly
• Slimline cisterns and double flush system installed in all toilets
