The inside man.
Forty soldiers under the command of Captain Andrews were garrisoned at The Shelbourne in the latter stages of the 1916 Easter Rising. Unbeknownst to any of them, Paddy Kelly, one of the Hotel’s porters made regular stealthy trips to the Hotel’s rooftop to signal their movement with flags to the rebels across in St. Stephen’s Green.
